Switzerland emerges as a global deep tech hub
18 July 2025
The two cantons stand out in the top 10 European regions for research and innovation, further consolidating Switzerland’s position as the continent’s most innovative country
Zurich and Ticino have been ranked 4th and 6th respectively in the EU’s 2025 Regional Innovation Scoreboard confirming Switzerland’s status as the most innovative country in Europe.
This recognition reflects more than regional strength. It speaks to a national model where academic excellence, entrepreneurial drive and institutional support converge to fuel impactful innovation.
ETH Zurich, one of the world’s top technical universities, powers Zurich’s leadership in fundamental research and deep tech. In Ticino, universities like USI and SUPSI anchor a growing hub where international research meets applied science.
Yet universities are only part of the equation. A dense network of startups, scaleups and established tech firms brings ideas to market fast. In both Zurich and Ticino, innovation thrives through close collaboration between academia, business and government.
From AI and advanced analytics to life sciences and privacy-first infrastructure, Swiss regions are turning knowledge into impact, and partnerships into progress.
At DeepCloud, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside companies and institutions from both Zurich and Ticino. These collaborations continue to shape how we think about technology, trust and long-term value.
Together, these regions don’t just reflect Swiss innovation, they drive it forward.
